dkVOGUE is a living dream and a son’s tribute to his father and to his Danish heritage.

As a young boy, Kim Thybro Nielsen fondly remembers his father, Kai, working very hard, mostly in the furniture design and manufacturing field.  As a certified craftsman with formal business training, Kai Nielsen has spent much of his career dedicated to coordinating the design and manufacturing of Danish furniture and accessories. His passion for excellence in design and workmanship was always reflected in the furnishings in the home no matter which part of the world it was located. As Kim grew so did his appreciation of the intricate details, unique craftsmanship and amazing quality that went into every piece of Danish furniture.

Much to his father’s delight, in early 2004 Kim asked his father if he would go into business with him to bring the timeless design and quality of Danish furnishings to North America. So Kim, his wife Olga and Kai drove to different parts of Denmark and met with the best Danish manufacturers and designers. They researched the marketplace, trained their staff and began laying the foundation for the largest Danish-only showroom in the United States. Their goal was to only carry award-winning Danish furnishings, to have the most knowledgeable staff and to have the most extensive selection of Danish furnishings and accessories in the world.  Rud Thygesen, a well-known Danish designer and an old friend of Kai's designed the logo for dkVogue.

In January 2006, their dreams and goals were realized as their first two showrooms opened in downtown Sarasota, FL. The incredible assortment of furnishings in the showrooms even amazes their Danish visitors who are quick to remark on the vast array of furnishings and accessories by world-class Danish designers like Hans Wegner, Arne Jacobsen, Poul Kjaerholm, Nanna Ditzel, Finn Juhl and Fritz Hansen. The fine furnishings are accompanied by exemplary customer service as every dkVOGUE staff member tours the Danish manufacturing facilities and is immersed in the world of Danish Modern. Most importantly, the showrooms allow visitors to see, touch and experience the beauty and history behind the most incredible furniture in the world --just as Kai and Kim had envisioned when they first started the company.
