Kim Nielsen | CEO

Born in Copenhagen, Denmark Kim grew up in Kalundborg, Denmark, the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore and Oxford, England before moving to the United States to continue his education. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Washington, an MBA from the University of Michigan and also completed 3 years of doctoral work in Marketing at the University of Florida.
 
Kim brings a wide range of experience to the dkVOGUE management team, from work in corporate America to entrepreneurial efforts and experience in the academic world. Kim began his professional career with General Motors in Detroit, Michigan where he started out developing new techniques for conducting market research and also worked on processes aimed at improving new product development. He was later promoted to Manager of Market Research for GMC Truck and also served as Program manager on the GMC Syclone and Typhoon high performance truck projects where he not only came up with the idea for these vehicles but also managed the processes from idea generation to vehicle design, engineering, testing, manufacturing the way to launch and production. Kim later founded a company that designed and built engines and sold accessories for drag racing, oval track and marine applications. A lifetime practitioner in the field of Marketing, Kim has taught the Principles of Marketing, Personal Selling and Salesforce Management, Quantitative Methods and Electronic Commerce at the undergraduate and graduate levels and has conducted research in the areas of consumer information processing, customer satisfaction and brand management.
 
Kim is very passionate about the products that dkVOGUE markets and because of his father’s background in the furniture business he has a deepened appreciation for the design and craftsmanship that go into producing these pieces. Among his favorite pieces are the Egg Chair by Arne Jacobsen, the Round Chair by Hans Wegner, the PK54 dining table by Poul Kjaerholm, the Ox chair by Hans Wegner, the King’s Furniture desk by Rud Thygesen and the Artichoke light by Poul Henningsen.
