Revealed to the world at The Furniture Fair at Copenhagen's Bella Center in 2003, the Flamingo Chair has quickly risen to the ranks of even the most coveted Danish furniture. Manufactured by Erik Jørgensen and designed by the award-winning Danish design duo of Foersom & Hiort-Lorenzen, the sleek Flamingo Chair hints to the wing span of a bird with its curved shell balanced on a slim pedestal. The seat and back are inordinately slender and sharply outlined. The Flamingo Chair also comes in a wide variety of colors, leathers and upholsteries. It's even available in a swivel option as well as an option with casters. The elegant, dynamic chair has found its way into the Museum of Modern Art in New York as well as the finest conference centers, offices and homes in the world.
Since its partnership in 1977, the work of Danish design team Foersom & Hiort-Lorezen has followed the Danish design sensibility of functional, enduring, mesmerizing design. The collaboration has spurred on several leading Danish design pieces including the Flamingo Chair, Flamingo Table, Pipeline, Apollo Chair and Rotor Two Seater Sofa. Their work has been featured in The Museum of Modern Art (New York), The Danish Arts Foundation (Copenhagen), The Danish Museum of Decorative Art (Copenhagen) and the Trapholt Museum of Furniture Art (Kolding). The team has also been recognized with the Danish living magazine - Bo Bedre's Design Award, Best of Neocdon, The Bruno Mathsson Award, The Forsnäs Prize, Kröyer's Memorial Award and the Nationalbanken's Jubilee Fund among others.
Johannes Foersom completed a five-year cabinetmaker's apprenticeship in 1969 and graduated from the College of Arts and Crafts in 1972. He has taught at the Danish Design School since 1975. To further the Danish design educational program, Foersom also served as a committee member on the Danish ministry of education to restructure the Danish design program.
Peter Hiort-Lorentzen completed a carpenter's apprenticeship from Helsingør Shipbuilding Yard in 1962. He graduated from the College of Arts and Crafts in 1965 and from the Academy of fine Arts and Crafts in 1968. He then went to work for Kilkenny Design in Ireland (1968-1970) and Poul Cadovious (1971-1973). He has also taught at the Danish Design School since 1975 and has served on the Danish Arts Foundation.
