With a highly anticipated emergence onto the North American market, the MILK desk was designed to address the basic concerns of computer users by focusing on functionality and aesthetics. The multi-functional MILK desk is the collaborative work of entrepreneur Soren Kjaer and Danish furniture manufacturer, Holmris Hansen A/S.
The sleek surface measures 55 by 25 inches and provides the necessary workspace without compromising the striking simplicity of the design. The MILK desk features an electronic base, enabling its user to raise or lower the height of the desk to accommodate sitting or standing. Set on an aluminum or chrome pedestal, MILK can be electronically adjusted from 28.7 to 48.4 inches.
MILK adheres to the theory that your desk should hold a lot but show almost nothing. Common computer components, such as wires, multiple power cords and cables, are easily stored in a cable drawer to minimize clutter, leaving only the primary power cord visible. MILK also features a unique file slot in the front to hold papers. The left-hand side provides four square compartments that open on the top and bottom enabling the user to store anything from the typical office supplies, such as pen and pencils to electronics, such as an iPod, to a stress-relieving fish tank.
MILK is furnished with RAL 9016, a white high-gloss lacquer. The medium density fiberboard (MDF) is six times stronger than the average particleboard, making the table top extremely durable and sturdy.
The desk was launched via a viral web campaign that generated more than 50,000 visitors to the site during the first week alone. The desk has received positive feedback in Europe and a Google search of ëmilk deskí will result in hundreds of thousands of hits, proving its enormous success.
The MILK desk is manufactured by Holmris Hansen, a family-owned company that has produced high-quality, Danish-designed furniture for three generations.
MILK designer and serial entrepreneur, Soren Kjaer, has successfully launched a number of creative companies. In 2000, Kjaer co-founded Castit ApS, an online casting agency for commercials, photo campaigns and music videos. The successful agency recruits models for 30 percent of all Danish TV commercials. Kjaer is the CEO of the digital image agency, Trunk Images, which licenses images from some of the world's leading photographers for use by top media and advertising agencies. Soren Kjaer is a strong advocate of the UN Millennium Development Goals, eight goals set by world leaders to combat poverty, hunger, disease, illiteracy, environmental degradation and discrimination against women worldwide by 2015. To raise awareness of the UN Millennium Development Goals, in 2005, Kjaer completed the East African Safari Rally with his brother. In 2006, Kjaer served as the curator for the Dunny Show CPH, an exhibition of customized Dunny toys by Danish artists. The money raised from the sale of the Dunny characters will be used for a project in support of the UN Millennium Development Goals.Proving that there is no limit to his creativity, Kjaer designed the MILK desk as a reflection of his own style and taste. In 2007, Kjaer partnered with Danish furniture manufacturer, Holmris Hansen A/S, to create and produce MILK. The smart and sophisticated design emulates Kjaer's own need for a sleek, aesthetic, fully functional desk.
