"I was born in Denmark during the war, but have lived in Florida since 1980. I was obviously homesick when I first came to the United States. What I especially missed were the Danish lifestyle, Danish design and of course Danish food. I quickly realized that if I wanted Danish-designed furniture I had to buy it in Copenhagen and have it shipped over, which was quite an undertaking. As for food, everybody who visited was requested to bring Danish black-bread, herring and Anthon Berg chocolate. How excited I was when I read in the Longboat Observer that a new store, dkVOGUE, with Danish-designed furniture, lamps and other items had opened in Sarasota. I immediately drove to the store on State Street. When I walked in I was surrounded by furniture by my favorite designers, Hans Wegner, Arne Jacobson and Borge Mogensen… beautiful lamps by Poul Henningsen and home accents from Stelton and Holmegaard. I was shown around the store by a very knowledgeable staff person, Carol Martine. It was like a dream come true. When the owner, Kim Nielsen, came out and asked if I wanted a piece of Danish licorice, I knew I had found my Danish store. dkVOGUE has the very best in Danish Design, be it furniture, lighting or home accents, and the service provided by the staff is outstanding. The first time I was in the store, someone noticed me standing dreaming in front of a picture from Copenhagen. Three month later, I received a beautiful poster of the picture that the staff had brought back from Denmark. Everybody at dkVOGUE, from the CEO to the Sales Associates and delivery team, is knowledgeable and personable. I was treated like family at dkVOGUE and I finally found a place to buy the very best that Danish Design and craftsmanship can produce."
