One of the premier Scandinavian restaurants in New York, Aquavit's new location features both classic and new Danish furniture and design pieces. Owner Hakan Swahn guides the tour of the restaurant and explains why Danish design perfectly complements the restaurant's modern setting. In particular, the work of Danish masters Arne Jacobsen, Poul Kjaerholm, and Verner Panton are featured extensively throughout the restaurant.

Breakthrough Danish Designer Kasper Salto’s “Little Friend” Table

Kasper Salto was trained as a cabinetmaker and graduated in 1994 as a designer from the Danish Design School. He has designed the Little Friend to match the needs of the modern lifestyle. A small multi-purpose table for laptops or other kinds of use - listening to music, books and magazines etc. The top has a cut-out carrier handle and its light weight makes it easy to move around. The top is only 6 mm thick, in white or black compact laminate and with a base in chromed and polished aluminum. One version has fixed height; the other version is height-adjustable - push down the button and the table moves smoothly up or down.

The Renowned Designer Series Seven Collection Featured at dkVOGUE Aids Benefit

The Designer Series Seven Collection Chairs were the stars of the dkVogue Aids Benefit, held on March 19, 2007 at the dkVogue showroom in Sarasota, Florida. The collection featured new interpretations of the famous Arne Jacobsen designed-chair from several prominent design companies, including: Hugo Boss, Georg Jensen, Bisazza, Camper, Hummel, Royal Copenhagen, and Paul Smith. The event also included a raffle of furniture and design prizes and raised over $20,000 dollars for the Sarasota Community Aids Network.

Making the Famed Hans J. Wegner “Peacock Chair”

The Peacock chair, PP550, is designed by Hans J. Wegner and manufactured by PP Møbler. This chair starts with the solid Danish Ash wood. Craftsmen cut, sand and assemble the wood by hand. The craftsmen do have a little help from a CNC machine. PP Møbler only produces 70 of these chairs a year, and only to order.

The History & the Craftsmanship of Hans J. Wegner’s “The Chair”

200 years ago the worst national disaster happened in Denmark. The British captured the Danish fleet which led to the replanting of the Oak trees. The Navy oaks are now specially picked for PP Møbler and the Hans J. Wegner's PP503, The Chair chair. These Navy oaks are transformed into this beautiful chair with the help of PP Møbler's craftsmen.
